Canada Statutory Holidays 2027 by Province and Territory
Canada does not have one list of statutory holidays. Each province and territory sets its own, and federally regulated workplaces such as banks, airlines and telecoms follow the Canada Labour Code. In 2027, workers in Yukon, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and British Columbia get 11 statutory holidays, while Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador have 6.
Key facts
- Only five holidays are statutory everywhere: New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Canada Day, Labour Day and Christmas Day.
- The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30) is a statutory holiday in B.C., Manitoba, PEI, Yukon, NWT, Nunavut and federal workplaces.
- Boxing Day is statutory only in Ontario and federal workplaces.
- Christmas 2027 falls on a Saturday; most employers give Monday, December 27 off.

Things that catch people out
**Quebec** has 8 statutory holidays, but employers choose either Good Friday or Easter Monday. National Patriots’ Day replaces Victoria Day, and the Fête nationale on June 24 is a holiday only in Quebec.
**Nova Scotia** treats Remembrance Day under a separate law: it is not a paid general holiday, although special rules apply to some workers. Manitoba is similar.
**Newfoundland and Labrador** has six paid holidays under its Labour Standards Act, but provincial government offices also close for St. Patrick’s Day, St. George’s Day, Discovery Day, Orangemen’s Day and others.
**Weekends:** when a fixed-date holiday such as Christmas falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the rules differ by province, but most employers give the next working day off. We show these as “observed” days on each province’s page.
