Substitute days
When a bank holiday falls on a weekend, a weekday becomes a “substitute day”. In 2027 that happens three times in Scotland: 2 January is a Saturday, so it moves to Monday, January 4. Christmas and Boxing Day move to December 27 and 28 everywhere. The government publishes these dates in advance, and our lists match GOV.UK exactly.
One-off bank holidays
The UK sometimes adds extra bank holidays for national events. Recent ones include the King’s coronation (May 8, 2023) and, in Scotland only, a World Cup bank holiday on June 15, 2026. We add them as soon as they are announced. See England and Wales 2027, Scotland 2027 and Northern Ireland 2027.
